A Resident Evil retrospective. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999)
The engine of the game remains the same core that revived the original game at the time, critics mercilessly attacked the technical side of Resident Evil 3. Nevertheless, when compared directly, the first and third parts of the series look almost like different generations of game hardware. To do this, the developers have significantly improved the appearance of a few three-dimensional models, made them more diverse, added visual effects, and generally decorated the game. Of course, this did not save Resident Evil 3 from fixed cameras and static backdrops, which, due to the lack of developer time, did not come out well everywhere. Unfortunately, there are places in the game that look even worse than the rooms of the original Resident Evil.
The game itself was perceived by those who knew about the tangible leap of the series in Code: Veronica, because they were the first to realize that Capcom was brazenly exploiting fans of the franchise by releasing the intermediate Resident Evil 3. So, sonka's power was limited, nevertheless, the console "pulled" Dino Crisis, albeit not the most beautiful, but more a three-dimensional game. However, there was a minority of initiates, and the majority perceived Resident Evil 3 as a full-fledged sequel, and were grateful to Capcom for the new game on the old console.
The game sold a decent three and a half million copies on PlayStation. In 2000, Resident Evil 3 was ported to the Dreamcast and PC, and in 2003 to the GameCube. The ports had noticeably better graphics, in particular, an increased number of polygons and a higher image resolution, however, this did not allow the aging game to fully compete with the new parts of the series, which has significantly advanced over the years. Nevertheless, the main task of Resident Evil 3 was to fill the empty space between console generations, which the game did, while collecting a good box office.
The musical score of Resident Evil 3 was less ambitious than its predecessor. Masami Ueda's work was reduced only to variations of the main theme and arrangements of old motifs, which in places sounded almost one-on-one. However, given the role of the soundtrack in shaping the atmosphere of the series, the familiar melodies and stylistics did not worsen the game, but on the contrary, provided a familiar tense and frightening sound.
Further progress was made with screensavers, the main tool for delivering a story in the late nineties. Real actors were involved in the voice acting again, Jill's voice belongs to the experienced Catherine Disher, and Carlos' voice belongs to Vince Corazzi. The quality of both "silicon" and "motion" cinema has improved significantly and is the best among the first three games of the franchise.
What should a former police officer of an elite squad in a zombie-ridden city do? Of course, put on your best high-heeled boots, a leather miniskirt and run, balancing between the crowds of the living dead. The writers brought back Jill Valentine, one of the main characters of the original Raccoon City game, in order to put a bold end to the history of the long-suffering city.
